Configuration

Settings are split by purpose. Start with configs/config.lua, then change the files for the features you want to customize. Each file has a complete downloadable reference in Full Config Files in the sidebar.

Applying Changes

Back up your settings, make the change, then restart sd-smashdown during a quiet period. A restart interrupts active games; let players finish first. Arcade edits made through the admin panel save and apply live.

Two different progression files

shared/progression.lua defines what players can unlock and buy. server/progression.lua defines when and how they earn rewards and when the shop, challenges, and season change.

Common Changes

GoalSetting
Free admissionCreditPrice = 0 in server/economy.lua.
Disable bettingWager.Enabled = false in server/economy.lua.
Change arcade positionsAdmin panel, or Groups in shared/cabinets.lua.
Force casual hazards offHazards = false in shared/rules.lua.
Turn off controller forwardingGamepad = false in client/ui.lua.

Make all fighters and skins availableEnabled = false in server/progression.lua; see the feature dependencies below.
Disable ranked or tournamentsSet Enabled = false in the respective server config.
Change languageLocale in config.lua, with a matching translation in locales/.

Feature Dependencies

Progression provides persistent profiles and ownership. Ranked and tournaments depend on progression and a healthy match verifier. Social features also depend on progression, and parties depend on social being enabled.

Turning progression off unlocks fighters and skins for casual play and disables its reward/shop flow. It does not turn off admission, wagers, or the separate arcade statistics system.

Networking and Limits

The default InputDelay = 2 is measured in simulation frames. The supported range is 0–6; increasing it can reduce rollback for distant players at the cost of less immediate input. Start with the default and test with your actual players before adjusting it.

Leave relay rate limits and resync limits at their defaults unless you are diagnosing a measured issue. MatchTimeoutMinutes should remain above the longest match your rules allow. StallSeconds controls how long an unresponsive player's input can stop before they are dropped; setting it to 0 disables that check.

Debugging

Debug and DebugPrints in configs/config.lua are off by default. Enable only the output needed for a test, capture the relevant server and F8 errors, and turn verbose logging back off afterwards. Commands & Logging covers status checks and audit events.
