Ranked

Ranked provides server-wide 1v1 and 2v2 matchmaking with separate ratings, placements, seasonal ranks, and rewards. Configure it in configs/server/ranked.lua.

Requirements

  • Ranked and progression must be enabled.
  • The match verifier must report healthy in brawl_status.
  • Players must meet MinLevel — level 5 by default — and use an arcade session to play.
  • A premade 2v2 team uses the shared party system and needs exactly two players. The default maximum tier gap is two.

Player Flow

  1. Open Ranked and choose 1v1 or 2v2.
  2. Join the queue; matchmaking starts close to the player's rating and broadens over time.
  3. Accept the match when prompted.
  4. Pick an owned fighter and skin before the selection timer expires.
  5. Play the match and receive the verified result and rank update.

Defaults give players 10 seconds to accept and 30 seconds to pick, followed by a 4-second versus screen. Repeated failed acceptances trigger increasing queue lockouts. Leaving is handled as a competitive forfeit, not a free requeue.

Rules and Stages

Default matches use 3 stocks, 7 minutes, no items, and no hazards. The stage pool is rooftop, pier, grove, vinewood, legion, and golf. Configure ranked rules here rather than in the casual rules file.

Ratings and Ranks

New ratings start at StartMMR = 1200. The initial placement series is five matches; season resets use three placement matches. The rank ladder runs through Rookie, Hustler, Enforcer, Lieutenant, Boss, Kingpin, and Legend, with divisions on the ordinary tiers.

The config separates matchmaking rating from displayed rank progress and includes placement limits, demotion protection, repeat-opponent adjustments, and Legend inactivity decay. Use the annotated full config when changing those rules together.

Matchmaking Defaults

SettingDefault
Initial rating window100 MMR
Widening+50 every 10 seconds
Maximum normal window600 MMR
Unrestricted search after120 seconds
Recent rematch avoidance60 seconds
Initial missed-accept lockout120 seconds, increasing up to 1800 seconds

For a small server, measure queue times before changing these values. Wider searches make matches easier to find but increase the potential skill gap.

Seasons and Rewards

Season.StartDate and Season.LengthDays define ranked's own UTC season clock; the default length is 60 days. Set the start date before launch. This clock is independent of the progression season pass.

Rewards are configured by tier, with Credits and optional season-specific skins. Add an appropriate Rewards.SeasonSkins entry for each season you want to award a skin; a season without one grants no ranked skin. Keep skin indices consistent with the fighter content and catalog.

Ranked records live in sd_brawl_ranked. Preserve this table alongside profiles and the reward ledger when updating.
